Part Five: New Year's Eve 2011 - Edinburgh

Pin It 12.31.2011:  Edinburgh

I thought this day deserved it's own page, since it takes you full circle on the past year of our travels, and kicks off the new theme of the blog.

We left Inverness after loads of hiking and taking in the beautiful scenery.  We were ready for the city portion of our vacation.  I had hopes of snow in the highlands, unfortunately the only snow was on our drive to Edinburgh, which didn't make for the best driving.  Although, as a passenger, I found it quite beautiful.
Finally we were almost there.  ETA: 17:22!

We settled in the hotel, and prepared to go out for the torchlight processional, which is part of Edinburgh's Hogmanay kick off on 12.30.2011.  Read more about Edinburgh's Hogmanay here.  We settled in early, to prepare for the Hogmanay street party.

We spend NYE day sight seeing.  Walked to the castle, saw our first bag pipers (LOVE the bagpipes), spent some time at the festival.
Took a pic in a phone booth!

Oh yeah, And we went on the swings!!

After some R&R, we bundled up and hit the streets for the party!  Luckily for us, the rain held out most of the night.  I heard it was quite blustery in other parts of the counrty, but Edinburgh was almost bone dry!   Once we got to the street party, we went to a few different stages, and before we knew it it was time for the countdown 10..9.....3...2...1!  Fireworks galore!  MUAH! and then  everyone busts out in Auld Lang Syne (we had the lyrics printed out for this very moment and we were ready.  "Auld Lang Syne my dear... Auld Lang Syne... ladidadidadida for Auld Lang Syne."  It was BRILLIANT.

Happy New Year!
